Thanx for posting this. I was 15 when I went to that concert in Milwaukee. It was at the County Stadium. I had grass tickets and was really close to the stage. What stands out the most for me? The smell of pot, being too short to see over most people [my big male cousin held me on his shoulders for most of the concert] and a giant juke box coming out of the stage floor during Juke Box Hero. sigh. What a concert.Lizahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05225438420259443703noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3394476818637298070.post-22264837748689813742008-02-11T22:21:00.000-06:002008-02-11T22:21:00.000-06:00That was always one of my biggest grievances with ...That was always one of my biggest grievances with KY, right up their dying day--they hardly ever played Kiss! Not your fault, of course, but it always irked me that they chose to ignore one of the most popular bands in America, yet they played Boston and Aerosmith to death.

One other memory I forgot to include was this was the first Kiss tour during which Gene Simmons "flew" to the top of the lighting rig during "God Of Thunder", which caught me off-guard just a touch!Brian Hollandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15093201252403779991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3394476818637298070.post-70326794855747529802008-02-11T21:33:00.000-06:002008-02-11T21:33:00.000-06:00Ah yes, grasshopper. I thought Martin Chambers was so much better than Kenny Jones that night. I actually came away from that show thinking that he would have been a better replacement for Keith than Kenny Jones. Kiss/Judas Priest was one of the lessons I learned about doing stage announcements. Tough crowd. I got onstage, said something about being "Randy Raley from KY 102" and listened as the boos rolled in from the last row to the first. KY didn't play Kiss and rarely played Judas Priest. So, from then on I always said something that everyone could agree on.."hey, I'm Randy Raley from KY 102 and flowers are beautiful'....oh yeah. I remember it well as Rob Halford entered teh stage on a Harley. Thanks for long ago memories, bud.RRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01912747683861405707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3394476818637298070.post-83631356820730459752008-02-10T16:00:00.000-06:002008-02-10T16:00:00.000-06:00Great idea!We have at least one concert in common ...Great idea!

We have at least one concert in common so far - the Who/Pretenders show. (I may have already mentioned that.) Although I wouldn't go so far as to say the Pretenders blew the Who off the stage, they came damn close. As for the Who, it seemed to me they were still getting used to Kenney Jones after all those years with Keith Moon.

I was going to mention during your Cars post that I was at Summer Jam,and it was a different show. Summer Jam was in August, IIRC, and featured REO Speedwagon as the headliners, along with Santana, the Little River Band, and Pat Travers. That show was memorable for the massive thunderstorm that whipped up as REO took the stage. They huddled on the stage for a few minutes, then Kevin Cronin announced that they were going on with the show! Looking back, that was downright suicidal on their part, as their instruments were lightning rods as the storm raged. Of course, REO played their asses off that day, as 35,000 of us were getting soaked to the skin cheering them on. They mention this show in the notes to their Decade Of Rock 'N' Roll compilation - I've always figured that's the closest I'll ever get to being mentioned in a band's liner notes.dr sardonicushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06198551434246302063noreply@blogger.com
